A teleprompter that lets you go off-script

A voice-following prompter that loses you the moment you say something that is not on the page is not much use. TellyPrompter waits.
What happens when you go off-script?
When you say something that is not in the script, TellyPrompter stops moving. The reading line stays where you left it while you talk.
When you return to the words on the page, it picks you up again, usually within a few words, and carries on from there.
A skipped line, a repeated line and a long pause mid-sentence are handled the same way: it finds you again on its own.
Can you plan a tangent in the script?
Yes. Write [GO OFF-SCRIPT] in the script, with a note to yourself after it inside the brackets, and TellyPrompter treats it as a direction rather than as words to be spoken.
Any note in square brackets is skipped that way. GO OFF-SCRIPT is one of ten named production cues; the other nine are PAUSE, EMPHASISE, SHOW, B-ROLL, SCREEN, PROP, PRONOUNCE, CUT and DISCLOSURE.
Does pausing break it?
No. A pause of any length leaves the reading line where it is. There is no scroll speed to keep up with: the read sets the pace.

TellyPrompter is free to use, with no account and nothing to download. Open tellyprompter.com/app/ in a browser, paste a script and start reading.
Recording is free too. It is not a paid feature, and nothing it produces carries a watermark.
Pro costs £7 a month, £40 a year or £99 once. It is for the cloud script library: a free account syncs up to five scripts between devices, and Pro syncs as many as you write. Recording is not behind it.
What does it need?
Voice-following uses the speech recognition built into your browser. Chrome, Edge and Safari have it; Firefox does not.
Without it, TellyPrompter can still follow the sound of your voice, or scroll at a steady pace you set. Those two modes work in every browser.
It runs on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows, in the browser.
Where does your voice go?
We never receive your audio. TellyPrompter uses the speech recognition built into your browser and does not operate a speech service of its own, so no recording of your voice reaches us at any point.
Some browsers implement their speech API by sending audio to their own servers — Chrome's is documented as server-based, which is why dictation there does not work offline. Where your browser works that way, your voice reaches your browser vendor under their privacy policy rather than ours, and what they do with it is governed by their terms.
