Can I record a video while reading a teleprompter?

Yes. TellyPrompter puts your script and camera preview in the same browser tab. Turn on Camera before you start the take, allow camera and microphone access, then read with the script above or over the preview. The original video downloads without a TellyPrompter watermark.

Voice-following moves the script as you speak. Sound-following advances while you make a sound, without matching individual words. Steady scrolling moves at the pace you set. A prompting take only records video when the camera is on.

Is it free?

Prompting, Ear Studio, recording, review and original audio/video downloads are Free, with no account required. Voice-following is not metered and recordings have no watermark. Browser support and microphone permission still apply.

Pro adds prepared caption exports, destination marker files, rough-cut timeline files, organised local handoff packages and export files in editor links. It also adds an unlimited account script library and personal-template sync. Export readiness depends on available timing and media.

A free account syncs up to five scripts. Optional account recording storage is available on both Free and Pro: 1 GB per account, with a 250 MB limit per recording. Sign in and choose Save to account to upload a recording; downloading originals remains free without an account.

How do I record my first video?

Start with a short test before recording the whole script. Check the selected recognition language, camera framing and microphone, then play the result back to confirm the picture and sound.

Which browsers and devices can I use?

TellyPrompter runs in a browser on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. Chrome, Edge and Safari have speech recognition; Firefox does not. Voice-following needs browser support and microphone permission. Camera recording also needs camera access and browser recording support.

If speech recognition is unavailable or keeps stopping, use sound-following or a steady pace and make another short test. On Android, the browser can have trouble sharing the microphone between speech recognition and camera recording. Check the result on your own device before a longer take.

The interface is in English. Recognition supports 34 languages; check the language selected for your script and change it if needed. Automatic detection is a starting point, especially for short or mixed-language scripts.

What file do I get, and does it include the script?

The original camera recording contains your camera picture and recorded sound, not the script overlay you read in TellyPrompter. Your browser saves MP4 where it supports it and WebM elsewhere. Download a short test and check that it opens in the player or editor you intend to use.

This is different from recording your whole screen with another app: a screen capture can include the visible script. For a tutorial, capture only the intended window or tab, or keep the prompter on another device outside the capture. Check a test recording before continuing.

Where does your voice go?

Speech recognition does not send audio to TellyPrompter. It uses the speech recognition built into your browser; we do not operate a speech service. A recording reaches our storage only when you choose Save to account.

Some browsers implement their speech API by sending audio to their own servers — Chrome's is documented as server-based, which is why dictation there does not work offline. Where your browser works that way, your voice reaches your browser vendor under their privacy policy rather than ours, and what they do with it is governed by their terms.
